I participated in a call recently and found myself distracted by the memory of where one on the call used to be. It was not as if he was in a bad place. However, as time as proven, he could have been and now is in a much better place! As I consider the comments of the doubters, including the man himself, I find myself in the arms of hope. Hope is alive in every individual, regardless of anyone’s perception or lack of. Hope continues, with and through our doubts.
As I look back, it is easy to justify my confidence then. After all, the proof is here! As I consider the areas in my life where I struggle to see hope, possibilities, and the future, I wonder if I am mucking about with natural doubt. As I think of individuals I admire, the following observations come to mind.
Life is more than just financial reward. A business executive with a bright future gave it up to pursue a dream of creating educational opportunities for those society had chosen to ignore. As a result, thousands of lives are forever changed, blessed with hope. In the face of the doubter the dominated the beginning, the reward and payback is beyond every expectation.
Life offers the freedom of choice. Orphans, kids from the wrong side of the tracks, and others with a limited support system, are part of my network of colleagues and friends who by all external appearances are incredibly successful. The common denominators are determination, courage, and the willingness to endure doubt and uncertainty. They overcame! What others described as being beyond is in their grasp.
There are tangible storm clouds on the horizon. One can and should see them coming! Doubters are looking to celebrate. The testimony of those that have steps beyond the doubt, the knowledge that “God made history with salvation, he showed the world what he could do,” (Psalm 98.2) is an invitation to make a difference. Their faces and voices remind me of their journeys and stories demonstrating what is possible.
