Walking is, for me, often an adventure of looking up, ahead, to my left, and to my right. I love being aware and looking for the unexpected. Walking at night reminded me of the risks associated with this approach; I often stumble or trip. When I expand my perspective to include looking down, and occasionally behind, I do not stumble or trip. As I considered the obvious, Life took advantage of the moment to share a few whispers that will guide me today.
Details matter. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of movement and possibilities. Looking up, taking in the sights is a significant part of my journey. There is no need to diminish or avoid the wonders and beauty all around me. If anything, I could slow down to take it in with all my senses. At the same time, I could expand my vision to include the good and the bad, the easy and the difficult. Each step is a learning moment that is complete when I approach it with an open 360-degree mindset.
Every moment is a potential window into more. I often focus on the deep and meaningful conversation, taken with great seriousness. When I open myself up, in both easy and difficult moments, I discover what was already there waiting for me. Candidly, “You [I] learn more at a funeral than at a feast – After all, that’s where we’ll end up. We might discover something from it.” (Ecclesiastes 7.2). Looking always for life’s messages is a doorway into being fully present in the moment I have.
Life is movement. In my awareness of what is below, I find myself holding an invitation to step forward with confidence. The decision to look in all ways equips me with understanding and sight. In one’s darkest moments, it is hard to see the light. Taking in all the truths of my life, while embracing the lessons and the hopes, I find a doorway to open. The step then was bold and courageous. Today, living is a time of celebration.
