“Do you think you can mess with the dreams of the poor? You can’t, for God makes their dreams come true.” Psalm 14.6
Monday a dream of mine came true. No ifs, ands, or buts; just a dream lived out in reality. The dream came and went to quickly to savor however it is still fresh in my new memories.
I have always carried a dream with me describing a good day. This dream may not be much but I always hoped it would come true some day. The dream includes three common elements. Life in chaos, bright sun, and friends reminding what is important and pulling together to make things work.
There are days when one or two elements are together, never all three, that is, until Monday. My schedule kept changing moment to moment, parking uncertain, deliverables piling up, and priorities expanding.
Just as I felt myself slipping away, I spent time with a good friend doing nothing much and yet everything important. The important things of life came into focus. Taking time to listen to a friend, diagnosing his computer, and checking on with the important people in each other’s life is a priority I often let slip by.
The day’s chaos didn’t slow down as the sun gain the peak. Struggling through traffic, fighting confusing to-do’s only added to the struggle. I arrived home knowing I had little time to pack, say good-bye, and get to my plane on time.
Everyone pitched in! Kids made it out of school to the car in record time. Eight hands were busy carrying clothes, swapping cases, tugging with suitcase zippers, and sitting on luggage at the right time. I hustled in the middle of it all bathed in the love only a family can give.
I walked out to the airport car on time, fed, packed, and soaked in grace.
Dreams are great, especially when you get to live one! I can’t wait for the next one.
God knows your hope and dreams just like mine. I know your dreams will come true as well.
