“The fist of the wicked will never violate what is due the righteous, provoking wrongful violence.” Psalm 125.3
Making money off God is one of the greatest myths of our era. TV want-a-be promoters plead for money from viewers to support God’s cause. Priests and ministers subtly, if not openly, suggest that good things come to those who are faithful. Every religion talks about the peace and prosperity that passes or comes with understanding. If you do not have it, you must not understand it! People who have money or material possessions give God the credit; if you lack any of these things, you are at fault and it is time to blame God!
Does God promise money for those who are good or faithful? I wish I could find the supporting logic! Does God even promise protection for the faithful with their material possessions? Again, I wish I could find any supporting logic for this premise. Is God there to shield all violence? Well, not all violence, just some!
It is interesting to note what God does talk about doing for His people. The Psalmist clearly articulate God’s promise – nothing what is due us will be taken away by evil. This guarantee clearly states that not one drop of unconditional love. The commitment does not add conditions of faithfulness; the Psalm just states a blunt fact. There is a link to a limited form of protection, however nobody seems to talk about it very much.
Where does this leave you and me? Do we cancel our insurance policies believing God gives us a better, stronger, and longer lasting cover than anything we could source locally? I am still keeping mine. Do we complain when stuff lands all over us? Maybe we can and should! Do we blame God for the dips and problems landing right in the middle of our small steps of progress? If we do, I suggest that we have identified the wrong culprit!
God never states that the faithful will get an easy ride! God promised us only one thing, relationship!
