Business buzzwords come and go. One of the more enduring words currently is end-state. Where are we going? What will it be like when we get there? What is our goal? Every question looks towards the outcome of our current efforts and activities.
In my particular role, we are radically changing the end-state. Two years ago we talked about where we were going, however, nobody believed we would ever get there. A year ago, we explained what the next level could be, again to doubting skeptics. Today we are poised to take the step.
Each question plays itself out in your journey and mine. Where are we going? What will it be like when we get there? What is our goal? You and I face one stark reality that we tend to ignore. “Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God.” (Romans 14.10) We ignore this fact and pay a huge price in the interim. If we just ignore and play out life, we are stating to ourselves, and God, that we do not want to ever be on his side. Our actions bluntly state that we have no faith in a life with him. If we do think that God's way is ultimately superior, the way, by not linking into a walk with God we lose the reality of experiencing all the benefits now.
Eventually, every person, believer and nonbeliever, will acknowledge God is God. The only alternatives are that there is another superior god. If this was true, then the god is within each of us, or a god exists without. Every alternative religion points to the god within.
I can describe what I believe to be my end-state and yours; however, each will reach his/her own conclusion. We chart our courses to it, regardless of the amount of thought we put into the journey. Living life without a goal is a sure way to failure, but it is our free choice.
As for me, my choice is the God of mercy and love.
