There is nothing in life as we know it that is “for-sure” and “permanent”. Everything one has, personal and professional, can be taken away in an instant. There are so many ways this can happen. It could be an accident involving car at high speed where you are the innocent one in the mix. Alternatives include disease, a momentary personal choice, or outcome of a battle where you were never really a player. The detailed list is endless, suffice it to say, nothing is guaranteed, little is assured, and whatever happens now is never automatically linked to anything personal.
Perhaps that is just it. Life today “isn’t” personal. It should be. Our lives, today and tomorrow, are at stake! God doesn’t accept the politics of life around us, the accidental judgments made through the actions and choices of a random person or event. God looks to the decisions of our lives. It is our choice that determines where we stand. In the judgment we will not disagree with God’s assessment. The reason is simple and crucial. God’s only agenda is to make sure we are restored to our full created potential and relationship with Divinity. There is nothing more and nothing less in the formula. Whatever happens here is unrelated to this fact.
God’s own testimony reflects this perspective. The words are sure and true.
“It’s happened. I’m A to Z. I’m the Beginning, I’m the Conclusion. From Water-of-Life Well I give freely to the thirsty. Conquerors inherit all this. I’ll be God to them, they’ll be sons and daughters to me. But for the rest—the feckless and faithless, degenerates and murderers, sex peddlers and sorcerers, idolaters and all liars—for them it’s Lake Fire and Brimstone. Second death!” (Revelation 21.6-8)
In the middle of the chaos that we know as life there is a simple choice. Will we trust and let God be our God or do it through one of the gods of self? God’s end-state is clear. I can only warn you about the rest. What happens next is up to you.
