Watching new leadership step into place is fascinating. In the current political scene, those that come with earned endorsements are influential, even before they utter a word! Those around them know that they will have important ideas in due course. The public willingly accepts that these individuals understand the issues and have an informed view. Trust is given, even before it is asked for or assumed.
In contrast to the new kids that are assuming roles they may well be qualified for, the road ahead for those with endorsements has different obstacles. It is interesting how perception, on all sides, dramatically influences the present and the options at hand. In looking at the individuals today, I find myself wondering if they understand where they are and what is possible. Before I speculate on their self-awareness, perhaps I should question my own.
It is relevant to note that “Jesus arrived from Nazareth, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, ready for action. He went through the country helping people and healing everyone who was beaten down by the Devil. He was able to do all this because God was with him.” (Acts 10.38) Jesus arrived on the scene endorsed by God. He knew it before he went into action. In times, others knew it as well.
You and I awoke this morning endorsed by God. The first endorsement lies in our family – we are children of God’s. The second endorsement comes in the power God gave us before we were self-aware. God appointed us as Divinity’s hands, feet, eyes, ear, and a times tangible presence. Third, God gave us guardians and a Spirit to always be at our sides, in every circumstance. Bluntly, we have been endorsed, in our arrogance and in our ignorance.
The only part of the unfinished rests in the now. Will we do something with God’s endorsement? Each day brings unique opportunities and singular windows. The moment at hand is part of an ongoing series of crossroads. How life unfolds for the community will be shaped by our response to God’s endorsement.
