The checkpoint at the entrance to the tunnel was heavy.  Every car, truck, and van was being examined by at least two policeman/woman in uniform.  As we approached, I assumed that they were looking for somebody.  My speculations raced to violent criminals on the loose, escaped prisoners, or maybe a fugitive white-collar suspect.  As we got closer, the reason became clear.  The inspection was for traffic violations!  Was the driver talking on a mobile?  Was anyone in the car traveling without the seatbelts fastened?  Was there anything in the car that could be considered unsafe?
In my mind, I simply relaxed.  My seatbelt was fastened.  The driver was wearing his seatbelt and he was not talking on a mobile.  The Bluetooth device was visible, active, and obvious.  It was clear that we were in compliance in everyway that mattered.
The driver had a very different reaction.  “They just want our money.”  The details that followed clearly told me that he held a very different view of the reasons behind the traffic rules.
I found myself wondering how far this contrast extended.  We know that it is easy for two groups to see the same events very differently.  Like most of life, this is not new.  In an old story, “the next day two of them were fighting and he [Moses] tried to break it up, told them to shake hands and get along with each other: 'Friends, you are brothers, why are you beating up on each other? The one who had started the fight said, 'Who put you in charge of us?  Are you going to kill me like you killed that Egyptian yesterday?'” (Acts 7.26, 27)
Do I see God's interaction in my life the same way?  Am I reacting to God as an enforcer of Truth?  What if Truth and facts are the same?  Individuals stating facts could be wisdom givers not enforcers.  Individuals honoring facts, even collecting civil fines when appropriate, could be respected.
Wisdom and truth will come our way today.  What we do with it may cost us or help.
