Sometimes the facts of understanding words, having been through the experience before, and knowing the characters involved are not enough to prepare one for what is going to happen. You can anticipate, yet the anticipation falls short of what happens. You can prepare, yet the preparation falls short of what subsequently occurs. You can even discipline yourself during the process, yet the experience overwhelms! Whatever the first experience was this is clearly more than anything you could have anticipated.
Recently I tried to describe my platza experience. I thought I had gone through the most intense experience possible! I was so wrong.
The experience steps up when you let God work with you in advance. In this particular case Mutar, the young man from Uzbekistan who worked on me last time, spent an hour stretching my tired muscles and stressed back. By the end of the first hour I was clearly in better shape. I was ready, or so I thought. What followed can only be described as the first experience stepped up several notches! I was sure my skin was going to burn, my system overload, and everything collapse. Yet as out of control as everything was, including the high intensity cold shower followed by an even colder full body plunge in the pool, the experience made more sense than ever before.
The disciples had been given a strange instruction. The results told them the person had to be the Master. Then “Jesus said, ‘Bring some of the fish you've just caught.’ Simon Peter joined them and pulled the net to shore—big fish! And even with all those fish, the net didn't rip.
Jesus said, ‘Breakfast is ready.’ Not one of the disciples dared ask, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Master.” (John 21.11-12)
Breakfast? Fish to sell? Experiencing God?
Choices; everything overwhelming the senses at once!
Today Divinity offers us an engaged experience. It may seem difficult at times. It is often beautiful. If we can be open, amazing things can and will happen. Love is like that you know.
