As I considered the two rows of fresh-roasted coffee beans available, I openly came with my biases. The barista salesperson’s natural questions started in a different place: “How do you make your coffee?”
“I usually use a French Press.”
“May I suggest you use a medium-roast bean? It will bring out the flavour in a way you will enjoy. Given your tasting note preferences, I suggest…”
I sit, sipping his recommendation this morning. His analysis was precise and accurate! With hindsight, my decision to follow his recommendations appears to be informed and wise. “Would you like a coffee? It comes with the beans.”
The double espresso made from Honduran beans was exceptional. It filled a craving I did not even realise I had when I said “yes.” There are times when someone more knowledgeable offers a gift. The best thing I can do in response is to say, “Yes, thank you.”
In the silence of enjoying the gift, I listened to the whispers reminding me of unconditional gifts offered without conditions, simply a desire for what is best for me.
Divinity offers to restore and recreate the best within me. She knows I long to be a better version of myself. She feels my angst and pain when I fail. In response, “As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down right beside God” (Hebrews 10.12). I accepted the gift without understanding everything that happened and now find myself bathed in hope and possibilities.
Divinity supports me at each step, regardless of the direction. Everything is focused on what comes next. Looking forward, filled with lessons and learnings, I have the potential to make a difference. Each day will bring new challenges and opportunities. I hope to succeed as I wrestle with the demons along the way, inside and out. In all things, Divinity is with me.
Every moment is unique. The espresso I enjoyed will never be exactly repeated. It was a gift of inspiration and motivation. Today, I have an opportunity to share my gifts.
