The cynicism in the room was tangible. It may have been unintentional, yet the impact on everyone, including myself, was real. I could feel the weight on my shoulders. My stomach was responding in a way which stretched my ability to focus on the conversation underway. Everything within was struggling to get out of a straitjacket of darkness and growing despair.
I could clearly hear the Whispers within, reminding me of the recent past and the familiarity of the feelings I was now struggling with. Even as the moment began to overwhelm, the Whispers continued. The faces and voices of Divine children bringing hope came into focus. In the process, I could feel and see a seed of light growing within me. The lessons of yesterday replayed into the present.
The potential presence of light is always within you and me. I am not sure why I am surprised by the unexpected sources who gift hope to those around them. It is a standing promise documented by many writers of old. The promise then, Divinity “brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures,” (James 1.18) remains true today. In the experience of its manifestation in the moment, hope is recreated and planted in new ways in all who are willing.
As bleak and hopeless as any situation may seem, when hope is infused, everything changes. I willingly acknowledge that I often do not know what the answer is at that point. The seed of hope gives me a reason to believe that there are steps towards a better future. Life reminds me that the offer is gifted to me, however the acceptance and use of hope is a decision which remains with me.
Faith is often described as the trust of confidence in someone or something. Faith is the power of hope is, from experience, a decision I take which often touches my heart, mind, and body in ways I do not anticipate. As today begins, I hold gifts of hope and light. Everything is possible.
