The coffee shop is on the podium level. In every direction, you see concrete and man-made structures. I know there is an unseen street below. I initially dismissed the delivery sign as a feature installed by a corporate team with no idea of the practicalities given the setting. As I mused over the pointlessness, a delivery rider arrived, stood next to the sign, and waited for his order. It was apparent to observers that he was a rider, not a foot messenger. With this insight, my view of the sign and the options it represents took on a new meaning.
As I laughed at myself, I could hear whispers challenging me on several levels. Was I willing to see and look at my path with an open mind? Did I understand that destinations can be consistent even as the way I get there is tailored to my journey? With everything within my reach, what new excuse would I reach for to explain my steps taking me away from my best dream?
Understanding a big story has shared building blocks within one’s unique way of understanding and learning. Everyone has a personal way of learning. Divinity adapts the revelations we see and experience to our abilities to see and hear. One writer noted how Divinity adapts when it comes to guidance; “I’ll throw out the old plan I set up with their ancestors when I led them by the hand out of Egypt. They didn’t keep their part of the bargain, so I looked away and let it go.” (Hebrews 8.9) The opportunity to understand is within me, beginning with my willingness to hear.
Destinations are achieved when I sail with life. Each step is a process of compassionately applying my values and priorities for the individuals involved, including myself. There is no absolute script that fits every situation and individual. Life is like sailing in a storm with a Divine first mate ready to help and support us.
Our paths are individual and shared. I aim to be a fair wind for those around me.
