I started my day reflecting on the couch with a painting dominating my vision. I remember speaking with the artist when he finished the painting 25 years ago. With a friendship born in my childhood, our conversation centred on how Divinity flowed into our lives. She permeates everything that we could see, touch, or experience. In the busyness of life, it is easy to get caught up and miss her presence. This piece always takes me back to the omnipresence of Divinity. Life’s whispers remind me that her careful eyes take everything in. She speaks through whatever touches our senses, emotions, and relationships. We are connected, even when we have forgotten about the connection.
Divinity can handle everything we can throw at her, and more. The metaphorical observation still rings true. “All the rivers flow into the sea [Divinity], but the sea never fills up. The rivers keep flowing to the same old place and then start all over and do it again.” (Ecclesiastes 1:7). I fall back into a habit from childhood, thinking I need to filter what I share. The irony is that She already knows everything. Wisdom fathers before me set the example of full-on candour. When I put everything on the line for Divinity, I discover that Divinity has already put everything on the line for me.
Divinity’s focus is on our relationship. It is all positive, looking for opportunities to support, restore, and even recreate within us so that we reach our greatest potential. It was never about how good I can be, She already knows my weaknesses and failure. It was never about my obedience. Divinity is looking to have a reserved place in my heart and soul. The focus, then and now, is about walking together, sharing the path, and gifting what she unconditionally has given me to others.
Life’s flow starts and ends in our relationships. We live within a family and a community. Our birth began in the relationship between our parents and Divinity. It continues today in my life and in the relationships with each step.
