“Silence is praise to you, Zion-dwelling God, and also obedience. You hear the prayer in it all.” Psalm 65.1
On the surface, we know prayer has two essential players and a set of words, or something like that. We believe that the only people involved are the person and their God. Traditionally there are different prayer forms. Logically we draw the conclusion that the combination of prayer forms with an individual and their God constitutes live prayer. While logical, is it correct? Is this prayer or is prayer an attitude?
David acknowledges in his prayer that God hears our cry no matter how we express it. Anything, no everything, is can be our expression of hope, anger, frustration, and joy to and with God. In many ways, we express our feelings to God without even thinking about it! The expressions of raw emotion to God come in strange ways. We are angry and take it out on the innocent. We are peaceful and express it through helping others, taking the time to listen and just be in their presence. Our decisions and actions because acts of prayer. Tilden Edwards always reminds me that prayer is more a state of being rather than an isolated act of doing. Strange words echoing David’s prayer.
If we understand how often we pray, we will have an opportunity to express our prayer honestly. If we are angry with God, take it up with him directly. If we are happy, revel in the peace in every way. Life is full of challenges, letting our conversation with God reflect the reality of our lives will make a difference! We have an opportunity to tap into the most powerful entity in the universe. God commits that he has and will always listen, yet we seem to ignore him most of the time.
We live our lives talking to God without thinking. God understands us yet do we understand him? Do we want to know God and see him work?
To know, try prayer. Amazing things happen in open two-way God conversation.
