Driving from the east to the west in Norway presents a mixed media. There is an emphasis on farming in the east, which in turn suggests (accurately) that it is flatter. The west has the rugged coastline and tunnels, lots of tunnels, allowing travelers to speed up their journey. The normal way to get from east to west is via the ferry, a totally fresh experience of water, parking above and below deck, and a short almost motionless, cruise across the fiord.
Every formation is different. Each is beautiful in a unique way – shaped by winds and forces that are hard to imagine on a bright, clear, postcard perfect day. As we traveled through light rain, wind, and then bright sun I saw a fuller picture of what God is doing in your life and mine.
God designed us for great things. We long to create, to learn, to grow, and to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Our desires often centers on being in contact and experiencing life with others. These are common needs that I believe we all share. The desire is so strong that we try, with personal efforts and some discipline, to realize this reality. Problems come up in my life, as I search further and try harder, when I realize I continue to travel father and father away from what I desire most.
God keeps telling me to stop trying and just be. God’s word emphasizes this point, repeatedly giving examples of people who failed trying to pursue the path I am on. God does not give up on you or me. “He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son.” (Romans 8.29) God loves us with intensity and depth. I do not understand the “why” would God do it question. It is beyond my comprehension. I do know that Calvary, opportunity, mercy, and grace are assured for everyone, including you and I!
Today is another day I will ask God to continue his formation.
