I found myself looking at life through the lens of a camera last nigh. It was all contained in a simple light bulb decorating our table on the sandy beach. The light but it itself was not terribly pretty or unusual. Yet in the darkness of an island with only a single lane between the landing strip and the hotel, it was not the norm. As I focused in on the light, it was as if God continued a conversation that had begun much earlier in the day.
The bulb was dimly lit, small, virtually round. The element within gave off a gentle yellow haze that reminded me of the moments just before dawn. If it was not then, it was the yellow found in the last few seconds of a sunset, hiding in the middles of the pinks, reds, and violets. Yet the element was not in the center. It was slightly off. It was this imperfection that the Spirit reminded me of my journey in the present. “There are many places I can live in your life and shine. There are also others places where though I am with you, others cannot see the light. Is this all that you would have me be within you?
It is easy, especially in the chaos of life, to forget that God is always with us. An old man reminded me that there is “a Message from the high and towering God, who lives in Eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I live in the high and holy places, but also with the low-spirited, the spirit-crushed, and what I do is put new spirit in them, get them up and on their feet again.’” (Isaiah 57.15) God is here. God is willing to light up every part of our lives. Yet regardless of you choice and mine, God will shine. It may only be in our innocence, but Divinity will come through. Today is an opportunity to let the fullness of what might be come into focus. We can let God into every part of our being.
