“Bring gifts and celebrate, bow before the beauty of God, then to your knees – everyone worship!” Psalm 96.8
Celebrations always involve gifts. Small, large and everything in between, it is time for joy and happiness! August 26th is always a great day for the Ashlock family. Yesterday was extra special. Whitney’s tenth, our twentieth, and Carli’s “I am happy to survive this all.”
Everyone got something!
Carli was happy with her one gift, but wanted to open it last and in secret. This made it extra special. The size and item did not matter as much as the fact that she had something!
Whitney’s celebration started weeks ago and she enjoys every moment. “Bring them on” is near the heart of her slogan! Yesterday she controlled everything from the menu to the timing and place of opening presents! In the end, she was happy to celebrate her first century! “But,” she reminded me often during the day, “ten does not make me old!”
Cherry and I follow our normal patterns. Cards are most important, especially the words me underline. Both hit the mark in good shape this year. Cherry tends to forget planning her present purchasing to very odd moments; grocery shopping is quite common, so my gifts often end up as special food items. She has no idea that she gives gifts that are far more than she realizes or plans.
I am, by nature, more methodical with gifts. I plan and scheme things well out in advance though execution may be at the last moment. I organize cards from everyone. The gift is something special and personal. I am a believer in the more contemporary side of things, platinum instead of china for 20th anniversaries. I must confess, I did not thing of a “platinum card”. I did go all out for a platinum chain.
Cherry was shocked. She reacted just as I do with God. Things were unbalanced! I always thing the same with God. He gave me his Son. What do I have? Me; that is just what God is looking for!
