Every once in awhile I see it; a painting that captures today and tomorrow, a natural wood cabinet that quietly speaks about the harmony possible between man and nature, or the feeling that comes when something you do is virtually perfect, nobody will ever know and that is very ok. When I catch a glimpse into what life could be like, I want to treasure and nurture the special moment. The lasting impact carries me through the tough times that will come and defines the potential of the life I can strive to realize.
Ironically, the glimpse into the future could be a daily reality if I was willing to let go of the present and past. The opportunity sounds so easy, almost too simple, yet it is there for you and I to take with both hands if we so choose. The question is one of choice and willingness to place a bet. Are we willing to trust God to lead? Will we let God take care of the junk in life and focus on what we can be?
I realize that I know that truth about sin. My experience in those moments of true sight tell me “that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way!” (Romans 6.22) I see, I catch the glimpse, yet I often look away.
I find it easy to turn away from heaven to focus on the issues of the day. The immediacy and intimacy of the pressures of daily life overwhelm, but the opportunity to let go is there all along! I know this to be a fact because there are days when I take the glimpse, throw my lot in with God, and the glimpse because living to the max all around me!
The opportunity is there but will we take it? God offers freedom and life – it is a choice.
