There are moments, rare and treasured, when one knows they are in harmony with the world and everything around them. The perfect early morning skate through Battery Park, the run or bicycle ride through a special and safe place, a walk where everything in nature seems to be talking with you, and for me, the perfect swimming hole.
Several years ago we discovered an awesome spot for swimming. Nestled in the crook of the river, partially shaded, and guarded by nimble trout, lies a old redwood stump towering ten feet over the water. From high above you can see the roots stump stretching out under the clear water, protected by the trout guards ranging from five to eighteen inches. Looking out you can gaze down and up stream, from the rope hanging too near the edge of the bank to the oak and redwood stands offset by yellow grass hills and a hint of fog trying to come back in over the hills.
If the scene is not enough to take you into harmony the first time you hit the water will! There is a gentle current that yesterday was being pushed back by a firm breeze coming upstream. The water is soft, friendly to fish, deer, and life stock, and in this corner deep. The sandy bottom stretches away from your feet, unless you have intent on traveling the fifteen feet through the crystal clear water.
We came and experienced this place with three dogs, five kids, and three mothers watching, and two fathers swimming. Everyone had a great time. We rediscovered the joys of family. We found a balance with nature that is rare and highly prized.
God was at the swimming hole yesterday dishing out loads of peace, fun, and heaven. The taste of heaven, of being part of God’s family is very special. I know I do not deserve it, none of us do. However, “He [God] can perform miracle grafts.” (Romans 11.23) Because of Jesus, you and I are brothers and sons of God. Restoration is God’s awesome gift for us.
