As I ducked into a restaurant to get warm, I was surprised by how welcoming it was. From the comfortable sitting to the smiling staff and the lighting, everything contributed to a sense of a welcoming embrace. My conversation slowly morphed into silence as the lighting and warmth lured me into a quiet reflection. Even as I look back to the scene, I find myself smiling, enjoying the way Life likes to bring me into reflective listening.
I can see others because of the light above. Without it, I would be sitting in near darkness. With it, everything came into focus. I know it is easy to forget the opportunity that the light gives me. On this occasion, it was the heart that reminded me of the opportunity found in every day to experience hope and the knowledge that I am loved. I could hear the whispers reminding me, “That’s why Jesus lived and died and then lived again: so that he could be our Master across the entire range of life and death, and free us from the petty tyrannies of each other.” (Romans 14.9). I start today hearing an opportunity to look at others through the eyes of the light above, with love and hope.
Kindness and care are at the centre of living. I am old enough to look back at life with a sense of appreciation. At the top of what I am most grateful for are individuals and the experiences we shared. As I go through the endless list, I am struck that in every instance there is a thread of care wrapped in kindness. Even in our disagreements and distress, I see kindness. Even in our fears and uncertainties, I remember the care that others gifted me with. Life’s ultimate gift is the experiences shared with others in love that are actioned with kindness and care.
If I can breathe, there is an opportunity to take the light in my life and share it with others. In letting Divinity fill me, I can gift the heart light to others.
