I want to be healthy, stress-free, and holistic. My life is anything but. The challenge extends beyond just me. The very things that tug, pull, and destroy what makes me whole reaches through me to those around me. If this sounds confusing then let me blunt. The junk in your life and mine impacts those in our life. Much of the stuff in your life and mine has a direct link to our choices.
In my case it boils down to the following. I chose to work with unrealistic goals. I chose to meet those goals. The style of how I work is a choice. The way that I interact with those around me is a choice. These statements are not excuses. They factually describe how life is holistically linked with choice.
When we come home exhausted the people around us pay a price. When we strike out at others because we have been under attack everyone we love pays a price. When we wonder about the values we hold dear it is linked to the life we have chosen to lead. John recorded the sight of what happens when a institution chooses the dark side. “Ruined, ruined, Great Babylon ruined! She made all the nations drunk on the wine of her whoring!” (Revelation 14.8)
Regardless of who you think Babylon was, today it could easily be you or I!
I don’t have the answers but I am convinced that there is a way for Spirit to guide. Compassion does not take a holiday! Mercy isn’t out on vacation, at anytime! Collaboration and team is always on call! If one is looking to build for eternity then every answer, any solution must include the mysterious and magical three; mercy, compassion, and unconditionally acceptance (collaborative team).
The challenge is that there are few models for us to observe! God’s soldiers are few but God has already won the war, so why not sign up? My belief is that we can be models for others in this darkness with God’s help. This is part of God’s holistic solution.
