Everyone has a personalized view of Divinity. Gender, accessibility, and inclusiveness are just the beginning of what makes your view of God slightly different than mine. From my perspective, each difference is an opportunity to share our stories and understanding. When I do this, I always come away richer for the dialogue and experience.
Additional descriptors which can make my view different from others is the power and accessibility I see Divinity bringing to our lives. She can accept any views of God as a step towards truth. She knows our views will improve if we seek to know Her more. Additionally, She will use any sacred spot as a gateway to worship.
I realize this may appear to conflict with the traditional view of only one God. In a world where our senses are overwhelmed with images, data, and noise, it is hard to see truth clearly. I believe we see clearly with proximity and experience. In our errors, we can grow. Even with cataracts reducing our vision, we will see more clearly as we come closer to Divinity.
As I walked in the shades of a house of worship, I found myself turning to the God of my faith and hope. I know hundreds had worshiped in this place before my visit. Each holds a view of God I do not fully understand and yet I sensed the presence of Divinity inviting all to step deeper into Her embrace and the understanding of love, compassion, and family. I found myself quietly repeating the Psalm, “I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: ‘Thank you!’ Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word.” (Psalm 138.2)
My prayer for myself and others is the same.
May I always turn my face and heart towards God, trusting that S/he will draw me closer.
May I open myself to seeing more clearly, understanding more fully, and living more completely.
May I love others unreservedly as children of God’s, my family.
