As I enjoyed the art, I found myself coming back to the warriors moving through the water pond. The artist left us with multiple warriors, their stance gifting us with insights into their souls. In the reflection, they began to take on names and personalities. I smiled as I enjoyed the fictional scene playing in my mind. I realised I was identifying myself among them. The insight into my soul came with lessons I find myself going to as the day begins.
One’s life reflects the values one carries within. I love the revelation I find in the reflection. If I want to be kind, caring, and compassionate, then my attention is on what I am feeding my soul. In my awareness, I hear Paul’s words through a new lens. “I’m speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it’s important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.” (Romans 12.3)
Others see our souls, often more clearly than I see myself. I frequently reflect with the bias of my aspirations. I look for confirming indicators, real and imagined. Others look at me through their experience. In this, they know the result of my choices with a clarity that I can only imagine. As I listen with an open mind to their responses, I see myself transparently. It is not always pretty. I can use the good and the bad, the pretty as well as the ugly insights as a basis of learning and growing.
In letting go of the need to be perfect, one begins the journey to being better. I love life with Divinity shines through. I love who I am in these moments.
