In my mind there are several good ideas that have never gone anywhere. Business possibilities, product concepts, and organizational ideas sit floating in my memory, waiting for another sharing opportunity. Experience reminds me that these ideas can never be forced. They will live within me until someone decides to embrace them as well. Only then will they begin to live.
Last night’s conversation drifted to food and Singapore. Singapore has a wonderful variety of food. In the midst of choices and possibilities, there are still gaps. Post-theatre dining options at the Esplanade are non-existent. Premium coffee suppliers are extremely rare. Late hour coffee shops are hard to find when you look for them.
As I talked with a friend about our shared experience, the conversation took an unexpected turn. It seems that there are many things in our past that are not well known. Insights, knowledge, and experience came together for a wonderful sense of new opportunities. There was space in our conversation for the unexpected. There was room for the unusual. What seemed extreme was embraced and built on by the other!
I woke this morning wondering how we got there. Similar to earlier conversation in the week, there was an openness and space in our dialogue that created room for more. It is a model that could extend itself into business and the spiritual. As I reflect on the model, I realized that we had used a model wisdom fathers had introduced centuries ago; “each speaker gets a chance to say something special from God, and you all learn from each other.” (1 Corinthians 14.30)
You and I are part of a community. There are opportunities to learn and grow with the insights others are willing to share. Life reminds me that the insights are there if I am willing to hear. Daily whispers permeate our lives. What happens with them, quietly disappearing with time or living through our embrace, will depend on how we respond. The possibilities are endless. Once an idea has a chance to live, thoughts and options begin to multiply.
