Life if full of decisions which in turn become choices that we make to go left or right. At times, we have full knowledge about our decision; often we make instant choices that reverberate and echo in our life and others for years. I wish there was a formula that I could implant in my mind that would bring consistency to my actions and the reflection of my dreams and priorities. Freedom of choice by definition prevents this.
I am beginning to see more clearly just how critical that small decisions of each day are. Little decisions bring my dreams into reality. Small, seemingly inconsequential, acts determine the reality of my life values. Nurturing and enabling my ability to see things clearly is crucial if I am to realize my goals. Understanding my life framework is another critical factor.
I am not sure how unique my situation is; I suspect that I am as normal as you and my next-door neighbor. When I am tired, I make poor decisions. When I allow stress to overwhelm my life, I chose things that I do not want. When I…things happen.
Against this backdrop, my view of the facts of life becomes critical. Where do I see God? What happened in the past that touches my life today? What are the guiding principles of my life? Where am I going? What do I value?
It is too easy to look at God through the eyes of today’s media. The papers suggest that God is distant, not involved, and probably vengeful. There may be gods like this, but not my God! The papers suggest that you and I are victims of our past, our parents, and life around us. However, the evidence clearly states, “Our old way of life was nailed to the Cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life – no longer at sin’s every beck and call!” (Romans 6.8) Freedom is ours!
Each day is an intersection full of choices. God gives us the awesome gifts of freedom, grace, acceptances, and love. The choice is ours.
