Historians and sociologists continue to observe, debate, and document the level of influence our views of God has on the world around us. Candidly the view we have as a community matters. From many perspectives the impact is not always positive. God’s good is twisted for personal gain. Militant god views have begun, supported, and promoted many wars across the world. Strict interpretations, knowing exactly what God is saying across time, cultures, and situations has led many to take actions which conflict with the principles the God I know stands for. Yet our thirst to know, experience, and see the true God remains.
It is in this thirst that I find Hope. Our souls recognize truth. They also know when the experience comes from something other than the true Source. We can sense God’s touch within as Divinity finds a resting place in our hearts. Far too often we forget God is there, here. We, I at least, casually ingest garbage, seemingly ignorant of what it does to our Divine home within. We/I ignore the call to stay in shape, denying the outcome that always comes from being idle. We/I treat the sacred with a casualness which denies its importance and value.
It is easy to tell ourselves we are worthless. If we fail to nurture God’s home within how can we be worth anything. Yet the truth is quite different. God knows we have, are failing when we were called Divinity’s friend, brother, and child. God sees us for what we really are, and loves us just as we are. God passionately cares about what we could be, wanting the best for us.
Responding to God is the beginning. Discovering the experience of walking with the Spirit, interacting with others living out God’s values, and giving God away to others are moments of growth. In contrast to the world’s norm, “your [God’s] people, for a change, got in on the loot, picking the field clean of the enemy spoils.” (Isaiah 33.4) The process begins individually. God passion for all is unending. God’s love eternal.
