Yesterday, in a moment of carelessness, I scratched the front bumper of the Focus. The spot is small, however Cherry and I both know it is beyond my ability to completely fix! As I look at my life, responsibilities, dreams, and needs there are many things I know I can easily take on. At the same time, I see jobs that are way beyond my abilities!
When I stop and reflect I find opportunities each day beyond the scope of a reasonable estimate. Engrained habits of mine represent impossible tasks to break into something new and pure. Relationship questions were the answer lie far beyond my reach or understanding. People who face pain, difficulties, and challenges I want to help with but cannot for reasons far beyond my control. I look at issues and challenges ahead in my own journey requiring extraordinary amounts of courage and energy that I know I do not have. I am way in over my head!
“But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it’s something only God can do, and you trust him to do it – you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked – well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God.” (Romans 4.5)
The link between taking on the really “wow” challenges of life and walking with God is very strong, in fact it is the same! The question for us is who is our God. Do we believe only in ourselves? Do we trust someone or something else? If so, do we know whom, why, and how?
I know that the choice of God is a personal one. I cannot make it for you. That is a fact and a statement that many try to dispute, however the answer never changes. I can tell you of the God of Abram, Paul, and Bill. The critical difference between this God and every other god, are the drivers of unconditional acceptance, mercy, love and grace.
This God will take on any job.
