“My God, I’ve had it with them! Blow them away!” Psalm 83.13
I doubt there is anything that raises my boil quicker than poor customer service. Recently my cup is overflowing and the anger comes far more quickly than I am willing to admit. McDonalds says something is not available and then serves the same item to the next person in the line adjacent to ours. A friend faces more hospital time for an illness she never asked for. Two hotels share a name around the same airport, delaying our sleeping appointment by an extra hour. A friend struggles with debt assumed in good faith, wondering where the next dollar will come from causing lingering doubts of self-worth.
My frustration is the same in all cases. It is not fair, justice should prevail, and I want more!
God faced an unanswerable challenge. One of His created accused him of being selfish. One can cite history however the question will always leave a lingering doubt. Historically God has not been selfish, but what about the future? Is He truly real in the way he acts? Perhaps in time His character will reveal the truth.
God did what his character demanded that He do. He implemented a plan that He prepared before our creation. He sent Himself to live as the second Adam. He lived our life and paid the price for our condemnation. His actions revealed His character for the whole universe. Now if only we will stop and take the time to listen, watch, and understand who He is!
God loves each unconditionally and without reserve; exactly as we are; knowing we have and will continue to fail; knowing we are in a state of rebellion. God prepared a gift for every person, regardless of merit! Perfect because we have no merit to offer!
Today I remember this and wonder about my own action. If I demand justice when others wrong me, who am I to accept God’s gift? God’s gift is awesome mercy! God gives me mercy; lets let Him take care of justice too!
