Even as I am participating and experiencing the formation of a new collective and vision, I find myself watching. The recurring question which still lingers is one of knowing. How will I know if we are staying true to the vision? How will I know if we share the heart of a collective vision? How will I know if I believe, passionately from my heart core outwards, in the collective?
The question of knowing is rarely answered visibly and publicly. As much as I want to embrace a decisioning framework, follow it from A to B, and reach the end of the process with assured intellectual confidence, this is not how these questions are resolved in my life.
I know there is a need for what we are doing. The facts have been on the table for years. As much as I might want to ignore them, look the other way as if they do not exist and I am not aware, I cannot. An intellectual understanding has morphed into an emotional imperative! I will not be able to solve it on my own, but I must do what I can.
I believe our vision and actions can be one of the missing pieces in a complex puzzle. Experience in applying the vision to a partial solution has confirmed the validity within the design. With reflection, fresh eyes, and renewed energies, the proposition is ready to take its place.
Knowing comes through doing. Over the years, history records how knowing followed purpose led action. As an example, in the quest to know what it meant to be part of a new country and community, Jerusalem was designated as the symbol and center. However, the discover of what this meant came later. Jerusalem, “the city to which the tribes ascend, all God’s tribes go up to worship, to give thanks to the name of God – this is what it means to be Israel.” (Psalm 122.4)
Knowing will come from our words, actions, and outcomes. In our early steps, I see our collective heart and vision emerging.
