“Tell me, what going on, God? How long do I have to live? Give me the bad news!” Psalm 39.4
The people who work with me have no that their business life almost ended last fall. Yesterday, as I introduced a meeting, I went back over history. Rather than sugar coat the past I laid it out straight. I was blunt, direct, and didn’t pull any punches. Knowing the past sets up the future and the future is bright for this group!
Watching myself deliver the message, I could see that they were not ready for my degree of open honesty. The fear in their eyes was clear. The worry lines etched across their foreheads for all to see. I was giving them information that they didn’t want to know!
Yet, I had to give them the real picture. I had to let them know where they were so they would understand where they could go. There is hope!
Given the rest of the meeting, the tone and energy, I believe they sense the message of hope. Now if only they can pass this on the message to the others!
Do I really want to know where I stand with God? Am I prepared to know how short my days really are? Will I hear if God tells me? How does my story end?
I am finally ok with the bad news. I am finally able to accept the shortness of my days. I am able to hear because there is hope. Hope in who I am because of what God continues to do. Hope in how my story will end because of who God is. Hope makes all the difference!
Hope is the greatest gift one person can give another. Hope in the future, hope in understanding life, hope in the knowledge of the value someone places on who I am. Hope brings love, peace, and energy in one package.
God’s message through Jesus Christ is one of hope. The hope is not only in the future, it is now!
God is your life’s hope.
