The presentation of the vegetables was different. The way they were organised with an eye-level presentation and disciplined presentation combined for a striking image. Although I was not looking to buy any capsicum (peppers), the display kept calling me back for reflective consideration.
As I consider the fun artwork the scene created in my mind, I see the use of regular lines, order, and function coming together to create a unique picture. I could hear others disagreeing with me. The combination of rules, requirements, and segregation can be seen in the display. There is a natural tension between unlimited freedom and the knowledge of what rules could bring. I could imagine a random, contemporary view of how the shelves were stacked if there were any shelves at all. The individual stocking the shelves, from my view, followed the rules and created a distinctive image for anyone walking into the store.
Rules are value statements. I have rebelled against the rules for much of my life. I still do. I have come to appreciate values that help guide the intent of my words and actions. Each expression that aligns with my values reinforces the reasons I hold this close to my heart. I see the impact care can bring. I understand how kindness creates hope within the darkness others are wrestling with. I am in awe of the way love changes everything.
In love, it is good to examine the rules to see the story we are writing. My choice reveals my values and intent. The display reminded me of the link between values, rules, and impact. An old writer replays Divinity’s proposition, “He says to the Son, You’re God, and on the throne for good; your rule makes everything right.” (Hebrews 1.8) It is a Divine calling to meet on the level where we are all equal. It is a meeting place where love, care, and kindness are the measure and rule of every thought, word, and deed. Individuals stand tall, knowing s/he is accepted. I pray my freedom expressions today reflect care, kindness, and love.
