Streetlights are usually utilitarian. On any other night, I would have seen the steps ahead and, at best, been thankful for the light. On this night, as I came towards the light, the early edge reflected on the edge of my glasses to reveal a spectrum of lights, changing everything in the moment. Everything that was partially revealed earlier was now clear. I found myself in a wow moment, hearing life share a few whispers which were replayed with the sunrise this morning.
Knowing something is never the same as experiencing it in a moment. Going from darkness to light is easy to describe. Experiencing this was different, especially when the darkness feels more extreme than one’s eyes suggest. Darkness confronted by multiple colours and a bright white centre created a new way of understanding everything around me.
Letting awareness touch your inner self can be a transformational step toward learning and growth. At times, courage is required to take this step. My barrier is driven by the understanding that once I am aware, I will face a decision of what to do with the knowledge. One old writer described his moment of awareness and what followed. “This is not only clear, but it’s now – this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness.” (Romans 3.26). Our moments may not be as profound, but each is transformational.
Not everyone will see what you see. As we walked under and through the light, others did not see what I had. I realise my awareness and knowledge created an opportunity and calling to act with this insight. The lost opportunities were never the real story. The opportunities we embrace and how we use them is the story to focus on.
Today’s dawn revealed a spectrum of colours, inviting me to experience and embrace new insights. In letting life teach, we create personal wells filled with wisdom mean to be used. In this moment lies an opportunity to act with insight and knowledge. Now is the time.
