Among the traits shared by many amazing people who crossed my path over the years, there is one which stands out above all others. Each had an amazing ability to listen, see, and find a pearl or thread of truth. The combination of seeing, hear, and harvesting the thread was not a destination within itself, rather it became a springboard for action. In certain cases, the process and outcome I first witnessed years, even decades, ago continues.
As I think of the revelations in my life, from individuals who touch my life, to nature, and to life itself, Life reminds me how the full cycle of seeing, understanding, and then using is required to appreciate the potential wisdom and love has in one’s life.
In the busyness of life, everyone faces a storm filled with noise, endless data, and images. Each in its own way blurs one’s vision. Retreating into a place there one can be untouched by this storm is essential, even if it is the dark night of one’s soul.
Letting go of one’s agenda and looking into the moment one has is a great first step. In my best moments, I do this naturally. Having said that, it is amazing how much time passes before I catch myself caught up in my agenda, blissfully missing Life’s whispers. It is in taking time to appreciate beauty, listen in the silence, and simply being that I discover the answers I have been looking for.
My awareness of the value the discovered pearls and golden threads have is found as I put them into action. The value found in turning away from my busyness to let the Moment speak is revealed through what I do next. My actions are my true voice.
James’ words are replaying; “Whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God – the free life! – even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.” (James 1.25).
