I had just finished a relaxing ride on K13. There is a unique freedom of being on a motorcycle, exposed and exploring. Limits are defined by a rider’s ability and the road one is on. While enjoyable, the afternoon’s heat extracted a price for my exposure, deterring me from being out too long. I parked the bike and headed home through the elevator lobby. The setting reminded me of the limits on the road. As today begins and I choose my destination, I consider my choices and the limits I put on myself.
One starts with natural barriers and limits. The elevator is bounded by the 35 living levels, parking floors, and the ground entrance. Going in, I know my choices are limited. Even as I bound my imagination, I forget what lies beyond. There are individuals, relationships, and interactions waiting for me. I can escape to the pool and beyond. I can use the ground floor as a doorway to endless destinations. My choice will bring me more than I can imagine.
One’s view is defined by what one knows. When I permit myself to see beyond, anything is possible! The mundane and limited choice of the moment opens to inviting others into hope, being a conduit for empathy, and being a messenger bringing kindness to where it is needed. Even in an elevator, there will be possibilities to gift others with cheer and a sense of belonging. In opening myself up to possibilities, I discovered that my role is more than a passenger. I am a Divine messenger to everyone I meet.
The preparation for the ride ahead is already underway. Every moment is an opportunity to learn and grow. I can use all the help I can get! Fortunately, Divinity is with us always. A writer reminds me, “If he were limited to earth, he wouldn’t even be a priest. We wouldn’t need him since there are plenty of priests who offer the gifts designated in the law.” (Hebrews 8.4) I need Divinity, especially since I want to experience everything this ride offers.
