As I review an opportunity to link projects with another team in who is working in a similar space, a realization slowly emerged. Their project was being overwhelmed by bureaucracy. The simple opportunity faced a complex and confusing future. Anything that would done in this space was going to be expensive and slow. It was hard find rational reasons to support the idea of linking our projects together.
In capturing my meeting notes, I realized that questions of linking and lingering are everywhere in my life. Who is linked to my friendship network? Who do I want to linger with, if only for a time? What principles, things of value, and causes am I linked to? With all the demands on my time, where do I linger?
When it comes to matters of the heart and soul, I find myself looking at the past to understand the present. Time, priorities, and actions combine to paint of picture. A story is there, if I am willing to listen and see.
I hear the testimony of others before me. From the Psalmist saying “From the bottom of my heart I thank you, dear Lord; I’ve never kept secret what you’re up to,” (Psalm 86.12) through statements of those around, where each lingers is the true telltale.
In looking at the moment at hand and into the future, I remind myself of yesterday’s lessons.
Why we linger is relevant. This is the driver of all that follows. It is the expression of the values within our heart. It is also a choice that will reveal our priorities and values to others through the actions that follow.
Where we linger is important. In this choice, we feed our soul, tighten or loosen our embrace of Hope, and have an opportunity to be the difference to those around us.
How we linger will determine the outcome. The right place is critical. Combined with attitude and you have opportunity. With these, the how is expressed through choice and action. The outcomes, intended and unintended, bring the whole story together.
Ready, set, live!
