“It’s like costly anointing oil, flowing down head and beard, flowing down Aaron’s beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes.” Psalm 133.2
Indulging in sheer luxury really feels good. One of my best memories of indulging comes form Milan. It was several weeks ago, but if I shut my eyes, it feels like just a few minutes have past. Just imagine –
Sitting in a sauna, baking until you can barely lie still. The heat long ago overwhelmed your senses and has now crept into every corner of your body and soul. Looking for relief you real for a cool bottle of sparkling mineral water. As you open the fresh bottle, catching the first sounds of the escaping pressure with your ears, you anticipate the relief you know is coming. Taking the half liter bottle, you gently let the water cascade over your head, bubbles popping and crackling in your ears. The exploding gas breaks out of the water bringing sparkling relief to your overheated pores and gently massaging your soul.
You may not like saunas. You may not even like being in a hot place. I do know that whatever your feelings, if you are in this situation pouring fresh sparking mineral water is an amazing luxury!
What would it be like if we could experience the same type of relief and soothing massage through our daily life experiences? Imagine the energy and excitement that would come with each day! My existing concerns and fears about the day ahead would become secondary, because I would know relief was on the way. My fear of being overwhelmed could vanish because I carried relief at my fingertips.
You and I already have this luxury at our disposal. I cannot speak for you, but I often forget or ignore God’s luxurious gift. God offers me the luxury of relief at and in every moment. God gives me unconditional love and grace – I only need to see what is already complete. God offers a protector and guide – ours to chose or reject. God’s luxury, confirmed, ready and waiting.
