Everywhere one looks one discovers new events, experiences, happenings, and objects that you want to describe to others. Every language, as full and descriptive as they are, seems to lack the exact word for what needs to be conveyed. As we journey, it is as if we are language bound, yet, we continue to walk bursting at the edges.
We want, need, and in many cases must tell others what we see; yet words seem totally inadequate! The substitutes, metaphors, we use convey to describe images and convey familiar scenes flow easily as we try to draw each other into a place where we are confident that a mirror experience can occur. Often we fail, and the people around us are puzzled by our words and conversation. However, there are those moments when we succeed, and two people are able to truly share a single experience with learning on all sides.
I find, in my daily steps, that God is using the voices of people around me, to walk along with me. Usually I am deaf to the Presence, yet there are those moments where I hear clearly! A few days ago, I heard God’s voice of assurance and confidence. I honestly did not recognize Her until much later; it was then that all the words and metaphors kicked in together. Yesterday, in the midst of an intense yet slightly out of control game of croquet, I heard the Voice again.
Paraphrased; “You blockheads – shape up!” (Proverbs 8.5)
No malice or anger, just a statement of fact and command. The words had two fold message; stop joking and play within the spirit of the game’s rules as well as stop, do you have any idea of what I want to give you in this moment!
I found myself paralyzed in the mystery of that moment. I do not think the words meant much to anyone but me, however, the bluntness in that moment caught me out in the open. I played on wondering if I had any clue of what God was emphatically giving me.
God is reaching for you.
