I wish I could communicate, infuse, or consistently model what it means to be intentional to the values and priorities closest to my heart. I know it is a variation on the passion experienced and modeled by those who excel – artists, musicians, athletes are obvious examples. I find myself surrounded by passionate people. They care deeply about their craft, skills, and contributions to the world around them. It is incredible to watch and wonder. How did they ever develop their skills to this level? When did they recognize the passion within? How did they sustain their intensity and passion?
As I reflect on the steps in their journeys – from world class athletes to extraordinary film makers and photographers and on through to Qigong masters (meditation and healing) – I find myself learning and growing from their journeys. Each person has an element of the truth within. Each person is very human – carry the weaknesses inherent in our journeys, burdened by the hells of their own creation. And yet, in the fullness of their lives, I find a positive momentum in living that you and I would do well to consider.
In our journeys, how open are we to others joining us on the path?
In our steps, do we recognize, question, and deal with our weaknesses and failures?
In our fear, are we willing to go to the impossible, reach for the unreachable?
A prayer of old reflects my request to God today – for you and for my self. “Throw wide the gates so good and true people can enter. People with their minds set on you [God], you keep completely whole, steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don't quit.” (Isaiah 26.2, 3)
Even as I ask I realize God is already here, engaging in your life and mine. The key for our lives lies in keeping at it, never quitting, always striving to realize the true reality of compassion, mercy, and community. God’s reality has critical momentum, Divinity is moving forward. Come; join me from where you are in this great cause.
