There is something magical in letting the sounds of the early morning seep into one soul. As good the elements are – the soothing whisper of the morning breeze, the call of tropical birds to each other and anyone willing to listen, the gentle sounds of a community waking to start a new day – the combination is something greater. It seems as if there are musical nuances to the seasons, even Singapore’s.
Each element plays its part. Even as it changes, different bird sounds or the sounds of excitement of a dog out on a morning walk, it is as if this community has its own rhythm and melody. Every morning is different. Appreciating the nuances reminds me how the elements each contribute to a variation of life music; “along the riverbanks the birds build nests, ravens make their voices heard.” (Psalm 104.12)
The music plays on, when I listen as well as when I do not. The soothing sounds can sometimes boisterous with thunder or winds shaped by a squall decide to join. Regardless of the style and composure for the morning, each day comes with a music all its own.
The music and experience is available for everyone willing to slow down and listen. There is no discrimination. There are no filters. For each and all, if you listen, the music will be playing.
I find myself renewed when I stop and listen. If is as if my heart has been taken to an unknown place, fed and pampered, and returned to me better than before. When I return after an absence, I rarely understand why I have been away. After a time, my reasoning fades to silence and I find myself embracing the moment that is now. The decision to let the music do its work is a gift of healing and restoration.
I wonder about the sounds where you are. Have you listened to them? Do they speak to you? I imagine Life taking care of each community with a style and story unique to the elements that join in the process.
