Mother India has something special in store for all who find themselves touched. A visit, touch, or experience with Mother India will leave one forever changed. One of the “different” experiences is the experience of all that is natural. Nakedness takes on a difference perspective; I find myself giving others respect for their privacy regardless of the situation. Bodily movements, sickness, and the human condition are life’s facts; shying away from this reality seems is not always an act of squeamishness, it can also be a feeble attempt in denying who and what we really are. Success and power are related to a lot of things, often having little to do with effort, intellect, and responding to God’s call.
If there is anything India cries out for, it is champions. Champions for the weak. Champions for the oppressed. Champions for the defenseless. Champions for these things and more! It’s in India’s Champions that I discover incredible Hope for the rest of human kind. Against the odds, individuals take a stand. With personal sacrifice, abandoning their pursuits of wealth, individuals works for the poor and powerless. As great as their efforts are, evil still prevails and permeates the land.
It is in the context that I find great hope in reading how God took a stand against evil. “God has a sword, thirsty for blood and more blood, a sword hungry for well-fed flesh, lamb and goat blood, the suet-rich kidneys of rams. Yes, God has scheduled a sacrifice in Bozrah, the capital, the whole country of Edom a slaughterhouse. A wholesale slaughter, wild animals and farm animals alike slaughtered. The whole country soaked with blood, all the ground greasy with fat.” (Isaiah 34.6, 7)
The scene is gruesome, it reminds me of a few scenes out of my childhood. Yet it is a scene filled with Hope. It is a Hope seen in those fighting for compassion. It is a Hope found in those working for the weak. It is a Hope which can be realized as God lives and works through you and me.
