Sometimes things take your breath away. The small things in life can hit me as hard or harder than the big ones. Recently it was a view that would have made the perfect framing for a photograph, especially in black and white. It was in my sight for a moment that seem to last forever. Then it was gone, lost except as an image in my mind. Even as I try to describe the scene to one nearby, I realize I was failing miserably.
“What was it?”
“It was a my oh my moment. A perfect picture, a moment where beauty, contrasting light, and an impression of grace and wonder all met in perfect harmony.”
Even as I think of the scene, still at a loss for words, my body tingles and a shiver runs up my spine. Three recurring reminders continue to stay with me.
Be on the alert for wonder! Look out for beauty. Open yourself to being touched by what you can see, hear, and feel around you. Some look out and see the rolling water and sea that seems endless. Others look at exclaim, “Oh, look – the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon.” (Psalm 104.25) Both are looking at the same thing, however one catching a glimpse and moves on, the others catching a view and lets everything sink in.
Appreciate what is as much as you appreciate what could be. Dreams and imagination unleash the impossible. Seeing and appreciating allows the impossible to become possible. Listening to a story later unleashed my mind; now I see so much more than I did before.
Celebrate life and living. Thank the one who shared a story. Compliment that one who gave you a picture. Laugh with one who lifts your spirits.
Each reminder has become part of a my-oh-my moment. Together they changed what I saw, see, and imagine. So much is possible.
Today I have caught a glimpse of more my-oh-my images. They are here; waiting to be found, embraced, and remembered.
