Sometimes it is hard to believe. I am reminded of the wonders and joys others have introduced me to. If you had told me of the experience before someone took me into that place, I would have smiled politely while laughing within. It is the same as my response to the psalms, “Praise God from earth, you sea dragons, you fathomless ocean deeps.” (Psalm 148.7)
Yet, the reflection of joy and wonder appear as if the memory was being written on my heart and soul for the first time.
In my first team meeting, I was nervous. There were external threats and doubts within. Everything flowed from the courage of one expressing faith. Those present remember outcomes. While magical to the point of mythical, it was the expression of one which was the foundation. A single man’s belief in another human being, a willingness to trust his spirit vision, which gave birth to a journey which still seems impossible.
As the entourage entered the building, I had no idea what to expect. There were eight on one side of the table. On our side, myself included, we were three. The introductions were formal and business like. Initially the questions and answers followed a predictable script. At what I now see as a pivotal moment, there was a two-part question which transformed the many to a one-on-one exchange. How did you imagine the solution and why?
The only answer possible was from the heart. Then and now, how and why will one leave the moment at hand?
As I steady myself in the moments before standing up to share a word with a group of young seekers of Divinity, a young man asked me if he could pray over me. Surprised, I responded positively. As he prayed, he suddenly stopped and asked me, “are you open to more?”
Not knowing how to respond, I simply said “I hope I am”.
He ended his prayer with the words, “may your hope be realized tonight”.
As I stood, I saw what until then I had been unable to see.
