In a conversation with a good friend, he reminded me of an old conversation. I had long forgotten the moment. He remembered our dialogue with incredible detail. As he described the setting and my words, it was as if an old friend had reintroduced himself to me. I was there. I was in the moment. I was engaged in the business of living. God was a familiar friend.
There are two reactions. First, it seems so long ago. I am watching an old movie only to discover that I am in it! As I find myself caught in the memories, I now see how much more was going on. God was engaged in the fine print of my life. The Spirit was working the angles, providing words, inspiration, and even guidance as I opened myself up to the possibilities. I have no idea why or how I lost those particular memories.
Second, the words shared without agenda or bias were clearly not my own. They told of a day now unfolding that was at the time improbable. In this case, only the two of us will know, yet God was and is engaged in the details of our lives. We have direct evidence. We had the insight. We were privy to an insider's view of Hope.
I awake to a new day somewhat shaken by the experience. God is actively seeking to be part of your life and mine. Much of the time, I blissfully push on, missing the bigger picture. The empowerment offered to us is here. Others have placed their faith in us, knowing that we are capable of much more than we believe. Each moment is a new beginning, filled with possibilities. As I live in that moment, I can make a difference in the world around me. I can touch another with mercy. I can reach out with acceptance. I can engage in the business of living. I can walk with the Spirit living within.
“The apostles laid their hands on them and they did receive the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 8.17)
