“Sing to God a brand-new song. He’s made a world of wonders!” Psalm 98.1
Living in a new country creates an awareness of things new and different. In every place, there is the normal different but irritating things. I also find the normal and so awesome and wonderful things. Perhaps the greatest of these is the art of conversation and family. It seems that British kids just cannot be quiet, in a good way most of the time!
Traveling on the train to work I experienced the high and low of British kids. The low was common to all countries; a loud, screaming, nobody will stop me, four-year-old boy. Every events, noise, lurch was an opportunity to increase the decibels which started at ear piercing levels. In contrast, his older brother was a budding scientist. Constant chatter exploring and seeking explanations for everything in sight. The range was enormous! From the layout of train stations and tracks to the Labor government’s social policy on cars, to the way doors worked.
Taking a fresh, new look at work, the train rides back, and then at home I found that indeed God made a world of wonders just waiting for us to discover and experience!
At the top of the pole is family and we! Do not be too shy! You are an amazing person! You are interesting when nothing suggests there is a conversation in sight. You are energetic when every fiber of your body should be screaming sleep. You are family when the chips are down! Then there are our partners, who could imagine! Patience, love, and intelligence all wrapped into one! On top of everything, there are kids. They are bright, interested in the world, looking to experience the most life can and will offer, and caring. Wonderful discoveries!
I look around and wonder; where have I been? Could I be so blind? I see new things that are old light. God created awesome beauty all around me. It is time for a new song! It is time for a party! Come join me!
