Have you ever made an observation that you were absolutely certain was accurate and factual and then later realized that your observation was exactly opposite of what you came to know was the truth? Regardless of the underlying reasons for your original understanding, decisions were taken, actions executed, and relationships changed. Everything turns on a view that you came to see very differently in the future.
I see something, auto-conclude what is happening and react. On the opposite extreme, I grasp the picture and offer help where none is wanted or accepted. I cannot fathom what my offer is rejected until I begin to see things from the recipients eyes; then I find something totally different! The harsh reality is that “if you wake your friend in the early morning by shouting “Rise and shine!” It will sound to him more like a curse than a blessing.” (Proverbs 27.14)
The God I know has chosen to give us freedom; real, absolute, and complete freewill to choose our path and future. In this context God has an interesting dilemma. How far does he let freedom reign before protecting us from ourselves. Every parent will at one time face the same painful crossing. Do I let my precious child stumble and I believe hurt themselves or do I let them grow? What happens if I cannot see any “growth” opportunity only pain and suffering? Even if I see it the bigger picture is there any chance that the person receiving my offer will accept what I freely give.
Watching painful things develop and unfold is painful, distressing, and soul destroying. The God I know if full of compassion, wise, and caring. I cannot imagine that conflict and strain that exists as you and I stumble through our day. We are on the verge of destruction! We could lose our eternal souls! We could harm the relationships around us that we hold most dear!
Freedom and love are so important to God that he gave us the unconditional gift of events at Calvary. What happens next is our choice.
