The team I am supporting in the current championship is doing well. As they enter the semi-finals, I am struck by the reminders which are useful as I apply them to life.
Figure out which side you are playing for. Other teams have not progressed because they did not play as a team. Individual efforts and attempted heroics took precedent over what was best for the group. In contrast, when one identifies the opponent, the word “enemy” comes to mind, and focuses on the needs of others who have the same enemy, great things happen. It often begins with the psalmist’s words; “I hate it with pure, unadulterated hatred. Your enemies are my enemies!” (Psalm 139.22)
Stay onside and within your role and capabilities. It is amazing when this occurs on the field of play. Teammates know they can depend on each other. Confidence and trust build to a point where one can take leaps of faith to produce outstanding results. The foundation begins with expertise, a willingness to play and live for the greater good and continues to grow with collaborative trust.
Let the great story and vision play into your own. Far too often, I find myself thinking I can see better than anyone around me. When I let the insights and visions of others become an extension of my own, my line of sight grows exponentially. Additionally, what I suspect might be true often morphs into an informed perspective.
The challenge of any given day can be overwhelming. I have no idea what it would be like to walk onto a global stage with millions of people watching. I do know that in your life and mine, our stage is the heart of our lives. In our story, everything happens here. We are accountable for the choices we make and actions we take. In many ways, it is as big as it gets!
You and I are part of a great team. Divinity is in the manager’s seat. There are seen and unseen hands, eyes, and voices onside to help. Anything is possible.
