God loves you and me, intensely, completely, and with ever fiber of his being. Having said that it is important to realize that there are things about us that he equally dislikes. No, that is not the right word. I should be more accurate and use the correct term, hates. God hates things that are part of who we are. How He is able to transcend those parts of our lives, in fact use them to opposite ends is yet another mystery.
I know when I look back at the person I was when I was younger that arrogance was a piece of that equation. I thought it was confidence, but based on what foundation? I assumed it was dressing up yet did I think there was anything underneath? The fact is that “God can’t stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, he’ll put those upstarts in their place.” (Proverbs 16.5) I know, God did this with me.
How can opposites be part of the same person? Any politician today shows their ability to change like chameleon colors on an almost daily basis. They are just more obvious with the same techniques that you and I employ. Actions include arrogance wrapped up as confidence, pretense cloaked in the aura of knowledge, hard hearts that buries itself in the ground called compassion, dominance pretending to be humility, and judgment taking on the name of mercy. At times it is difficult, even for the person who knows that they struggle with this to tell the difference in another.
In the end, does knowing that another has a weakness matter? The answer depends on what you are going to do with it! If you answer includes exercising trust, faith, mercy, compassion, and love then the knowledge could help you see how to reach out. The question that is crucial is our own understanding of our true self.
God know you and I inside out. God will deal with everything that prevents us from becoming of best, if we want. God is ready, waiting, at every moment in time.
I want.
