Every once in a while one has the chance to experience passion through the senses of sight, sound, and touch. I am not talking about the brief moment in time captured by Madison Avenue and used to motivate people’s behavior. I am looking at something completely different. The passion I am talking about is the one we see it in others in the middle of an intense discussion; they can be passionate about their personal or core beliefs. Occasionally we find the moment shared between two people who share holistic love. Passion involves a total vulnerability of one individual in making a statement to another. Two are always involved.
Increasingly I find myself seeking passionate experiences with others and God. I am looking for a people-God setting that is real, intimate, accessible, and experiential. Anything else just does not cut it; only people seeking to know their God, to be in the presence of the Holy will fill the need.
In my own life, the passionate experience of God is the only thing that quenches my thirst to know God. I believe God designed us just for this and probably nothing else! As I look around my conclusion is that others do not understand just how awesome things could be – how much more passionate love is than sex – with God.
If we just understood what God continues to do. Just imagine; “If death got the upper hand through one man’s wrong-doing, can you imagine the breathtaking recovery life makes, sovereign life, in those who grasp with both hands this wildly extravagant life-gift, this grand setting-everything-right, that the one man Jesus Christ provides?” (Romans 5.17) God has set the stage for each of us to step into his presence and experience something that will forever be life changing.
Some think passion is merely an event measured in terms of seconds and minutes. Others discover that passion is an early glimpse into the holy, a chance to begin living heaven on earth. The opportunity is out there for each of us. Seeking the Holy is the first step.
