In the intense, intimate moments that pass between husband and wife, nothing else is in focus. My vision is totally on the one I love. My hearing filters out everything but her voice. It is as if we are the only ones present. Knowledge, intimacy, trust, faith, and love affirmed with everything between a glance and a whisper, a deep conversation and a longing gaze. I know and journey with my beloved.
God invites you and I to have a relationship even more intense than this. I wish I knew how to describe any part of the process or result in detail. I have experienced bits and pieces, but given the fact that I continue to experience radical new discoveries, my words are merely poor signposts.
As I talk with others along the journey there are several things in common. The first is that people on this journey are never confident or arrogant in their relationships. They speak of weakness and failings, mercy and acceptance. The second is that God's children are intense. Their personality types cover the full spectrum, but they are never flippant when it comes to God or our response to Him. Third, they enjoy life with a fullness and completeness for which I am I still striving. It is as if God is passing them a secret glance, a quiet word.
I have discovered that everything they have is available to you and I. It does not come automatically; it seems that we are our own worst enemy! God's desire to restore us to our created potential is strong and unending. The key steps lies in our pursuit and passion.
Do we really want to know God? Is God who we want to have as our most intimate lover?
If so, then “look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.” (Proverbs 4.27) Chase God with an open heart, mind, and ears. Hold on to gifts of beauty, mercy, and acceptance. Treasure gifts of happiness and pain. Learn from the good and the ugly. God wants you; He considers you priceless!
