More and more people are traveling, eager to explore, experience, and see what they have only imagined. I am not sure if there is a perfect vacation spot, but the very thought is worthy of endless conversations!
As I find myself thinking about thinking and relaxing, I find myself imaging what it would be like to take a vacation in another's shoes. What if I were a Getty; where I would go? What if I had never been away from my birth city? Could I muster the courage to step away, if only for a brief moment in time? What if I were God? “The prophet Isaiah put it well when he wrote, 'Heaven is my throne room; I rest my feet on earth. So what kind of house will you build me?' says God. 'Where I can get away and relax? It's already built, and I built it.'” (Acts 7.49, 50)
Yet, I am not in their shoes. I must make my own choices, selecting the vacation that works in my life at hand. I do know that vacations are an important part of life that I often neglect. Sadly, I find myself realizing that I have lost the most in my eagerness to compete and win. What has past cannot be changed, but the future is filled with opportunities. I do know that whatever my choices will be in the future, they will include the following.
First, I will be intentional in finding and treasuring the quietness in my life. I know it is not for everyone, but I need this far more than I often appreciate. In my life, this means intentional time spent reconnecting with Divinity in quietness and often silence.
Second, I will take advantage of the moment at hand to experience life in its fullness. This includes exploring the communities that I find myself in, seeking opportunities to experience things I enjoy, and being with family and friends.
Third, I will be intentionally balanced in my approach to my choices.
Life is for living – in all its fullness.
